The short answer

To fix disapproved products, open Merchant Center → Products → Needs attention, sort issues by how many products they affect, and fix the cause at the source (your store or feed), not one product at a time. The usual culprits are price or availability that doesn’t match the product page, missing GTIN or brand, images with text or watermarks, broken landing pages, and missing contact or returns information. Then resync and request a review if needed.

Before you start

By the end of this SOP

Most products approved, with the root cause of each issue fixed in the store or feed.

Time
30–90 minutes
You’ll need
Merchant Center access (SOP 322) and admin access to the store or product feed.
Who does this
The store owner or the person managing the product feed.
About this SOP: why it matters, where and when

Why it matters: Disapproved products can’t show in free listings or ads, so budgets get spent on fewer products and sales drop.

Where: merchants.google.com → Products, plus the store admin.

When: Weekly while setting up, then whenever Merchant Center emails about issues.

Stage 1

See what is blocked and why

  1. 1

Open Products → Needs attention (or All products filtered by status).

  2. 2

Group by issue and sort by number of products. Fix the biggest group first.

  3. 3

Click an issue to see Google’s explanation and an example product.

Stage 2

Fix the common issues

  1. 1

    Price or availability mismatch:

    • The feed price must equal the price on the product page, including sale prices.
    • Sync more often, and avoid prices that change by location or after a pop-up.
  2. 2

    Missing identifiers:

    • Add GTIN (barcode) for branded products.
    • For own-brand or handmade products, add brand and MPN, or set identifier_exists = no.
  3. 3

    Image issues:

    • Use clear product photos on a plain background, no promotional text, borders or watermarks.
    • Minimum 100 × 100 px (250 × 250 for clothing); larger is better.
  4. 4

    Landing page errors:

    • The product link must load (no 404, no login wall), on mobile too, and show the same product.
  5. 5

    Misrepresentation (account level):

    • Show clear contact details, a physical address if relevant, returns and refund policy, secure checkout, and honest claims.
    • Remove exaggerated discounts or claims you can’t prove.

Stage 3

Resync and confirm

  1. 1

Resync from the Shopify or WooCommerce app, or re-upload the feed.

  2. 2

For account-level issues, click Request review after the fixes are live.

  3. 3

Check Needs attention again in 1–3 days and keep a short log of what you changed.

Practice & check

Now do it for real

Reading is not doing. Open your own account and complete this task before you move on.

Practice task (5 min)

Open a Merchant Center account’s Needs attention tab, list the top three issues by products affected, and write the root-cause fix for each.

Prove it

1. A product shows ₹1,499 in the feed but ₹1,299 on the site. What will happen?
2. What should an own-brand product without a barcode include?

Two questions. Get both right and this SOP is done.

Common questions

Why are my products disapproved for price mismatch?

The feed price differs from the price Google sees on the page, often because of sale prices, currency, taxes or slow syncing. Make the feed update whenever prices change.

What is a Merchant Center misrepresentation suspension?

Google isn’t confident the store is trustworthy: missing contact or return details, unclear pricing, or misleading claims. Fix the site, then request a review.

How long after fixing does approval take?

Product-level fixes usually clear within 1–3 days after resyncing. Account reviews can take about a week.

Done. That’s a real skill, not a certificate.
