Landing page: the one page that decides whether your ads pay off

A landing page is the page someone lands on after clicking an ad or link, built around one goal such as booking a call or downloading a brochure. Unlike a homepage, it removes distractions: one offer, one clear call to action, proof, and a short form or WhatsApp button that works well on mobile. A better landing page lowers cost per lead without changing the ads.

From the homepage to a page that sold

A Kochi physiotherapy clinic sent all ads to its homepage: a slider, a mission statement and seven menu items.

We built one page for “back pain treatment”: the problem in the headline, the doctor’s photo and credentials, 3 patient stories, fees from ₹600, and a call and WhatsApp button that stayed on screen.

Conversion rate went from 1.8% to 7.2%. The ad budget didn’t change; the number of booked appointments quadrupled.

Illustrative example based on a common pattern in Kerala e-commerce accounts. Numbers rounded.

What a landing page is

A good landing page matches the promise of the ad exactly, answers the main questions, shows proof, and makes the next step obvious.

In India, most visitors arrive on a phone, often on mobile data. That makes load speed, a click-to-call or WhatsApp button, and a short form more important than design flourishes.

Landing page conversion rate = conversions ÷ visitors × 100

How experienced marketers use Landing page

  1. 1. One page per service or course

Each ad group or campaign should land on the page that matches it, not a general page.

  2. 2. Test the biggest changes first

Offer, headline and proof usually move conversion rate more than colours or fonts (see A/B testing).

  3. 3. Use heatmaps to find friction

See where people stop scrolling and what they tap (SOP 049).

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sending ads to the homepage

Visitors hunt for what they clicked and leave.

  • Long forms

    Fewer leads, without better quality.

  • Heavy sliders and videos above the fold

Slow mobile pages and lost visitors.
