How to Choose a Digital Marketing Course in Kerala — The Honest Guide

Kerala has more than 80 digital marketing institutes — and a wide range in quality, outcomes, and honesty. Some are excellent. Some charge ₹60,000 for a curriculum that hasn't been updated since 2019. Some claim '100% placement' on their website without any data to back it up. Choosing the wrong course costs you 3–6 months and ₹30,000–80,000 you cannot get back. This guide tells you exactly what to look for, what questions to ask before enrolling, and the red flags that should make you walk away.

The 5 things that actually determine course quality

Most prospective students compare courses on the wrong things — fee, duration, and the number of topics listed. These barely matter. Here is what actually determines whether a course produces employed graduates or wasted months:

**1. Real client work during the course.** This is the single most important differentiator. Can the institute show you examples of real campaigns students ran for real clients — with documented results? Not demo accounts. Not hypothetical exercises. Actual client campaigns with real budget, real brief, and real accountability. Ask: "Do students work on real client accounts during the course?" If the answer is vague, the answer is no.

**2. Cohort size.** A mentor cannot give meaningful feedback and guidance to 50 students at once. Classes above 20 students are typically lecture-based and produce graduates who watched learning but didn't do learning. Ask the maximum class size.

**3. Mentor experience.** Who is actually teaching? Are they currently working practitioners with real client experience, or are they trainers who studied digital marketing but have never managed a real campaign budget? Ask about the mentor's current or most recent active clients.

**4. Placement data transparency.** Every institute claims placement support. Very few publish actual placement outcomes with company names, roles, and salaries. If an institute can't show you specific placements with verifiable information, "placement support" means a WhatsApp group with job links.

**5. Curriculum recency.** AI has restructured every digital marketing skill category since 2023. A course that doesn't cover GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation), AI tool integration in workflows, and updated Meta Ads structures is already behind the market. Ask when the curriculum was last updated and what specifically changed.

The red flags — walk away if you see these

**"100% placement guaranteed"** — No honest institute can guarantee 100% placement. Placement depends on student effort, portfolio quality, and market conditions. Any institute making this claim without documented data is making a marketing statement, not a factual one. Ask for the actual number: "Of your last 50 graduates, how many are employed? In what roles? At what salaries?"

**No syllabus available before payment** — Any quality institute will give you a detailed, module-level syllabus before you pay. If they won't share the curriculum without you enrolling, there is usually a reason.

**Vague fee structures with "everything included" promises** — Hidden fees for certifications, materials, or specialisation modules are common in Kerala's institute market. Get the total fee in writing, including what happens if you need to repeat a module.

**Testimonials without specifics** — "I got a job after the course!" means nothing. Testimonials that don't include the person's name, the company they joined, the role, and the salary are unverifiable. Ask to speak with 2–3 recent graduates directly.

**Aggressive upselling in the first meeting** — If the admission counsellor is pushing you to enrol on the same day you visit, that's a sales process designed to prevent you from comparing alternatives. A quality institute is confident its product will survive comparison.

**Institute with no live website of its own that ranks well** — If a digital marketing institute can't demonstrate that it practices what it teaches on its own digital presence, that's a meaningful signal.

Questions to ask every institute before enrolling

Take this list with you or use it on a call. A quality institute will answer all of these clearly. Evasive or vague answers are data.

About the programme: - What is the maximum class size per batch? - Do students work on real client campaigns during the course, with real budgets? - When was the curriculum last updated? What specifically changed? - Is there a difference between online and offline programme quality?

About placement: - How many of your last 50 graduates are employed in digital marketing roles? - What is the average starting salary for your placed graduates? - Can you share 3–5 specific placement outcomes with company and role details? - What is the typical time between completing the course and getting a first job? - What does "placement support" specifically include?

About mentors: - Who will be my primary mentor? - What is their current professional background? - How many students will they be responsible for simultaneously?

About the institute: - How long has this institute been operating? - Can I speak with a recent graduate before I enrol? - What is the refund policy if the programme isn't what was promised?

Understanding fee structures in the Kerala market

Kerala digital marketing course fees range from ₹15,000 to ₹1,20,000+ depending on duration, depth, and institute quality. Here is how to interpret the numbers:

Under ₹25,000: Typically a foundational course covering theory and tools. Unlikely to include real client work or substantial mentorship. Fine as an introduction, but insufficient as standalone career preparation.

₹25,000–60,000: The most common range for quality institute programmes. A well-structured course in this range with real client work and small cohorts can produce employment-ready graduates. This is where Unlearn Academy operates (L1 Foundation at ₹36,000 offline / ₹25,000 online).

Above ₹80,000: Often comes with national brand recognition (IIDE, DigitalVidya, Simplilearn) or extensive duration. The curriculum quality does not automatically justify the premium for Kerala-market jobs. Evaluate based on placement data, not brand name.

The EMI trap: Many institutes offer zero-cost EMI with affiliated NBFCs. This is not inherently bad, but read the terms — some agreements include penalty clauses that activate if you drop out or request a refund. Always understand what you're signing before EMI financing a course.

**The right question about fees is not "what is the cheapest course?" but "what is the return on this specific investment?"** A ₹40,000 course that places you in a ₹4 LPA role returns your entire investment in 3 months. A ₹1,00,000 course that produces the same outcome has a 6-month payback. Course outcomes, not course fees, determine the real cost.

What Unlearn Academy does differently — and why we publish this guide

We publish this guide because we are confident it will help prospective students make better decisions — and because we believe that quality always benefits from scrutiny.

Unlearn Academy was founded with a specific philosophy: build practitioners, not certificate-collectors. Every element of the programme reflects this: maximum cohort size of 15 for L2 Agency Training, real client briefs from Level 2, documented placement outcomes published publicly at unlearnacademy.in/placement, and a structured four-level system that builds skills in the order the industry requires.

Our placement page lists actual graduates with names, previous backgrounds, companies, and roles. If you visit it and see the names don't match what a counsellor tells you, that's a problem. If they match — and we update it regularly — that's evidence we're doing what we claim.

We recommend comparing us directly against competitors. Visit their placement pages. Ask for the same data from them that this guide tells you to ask us for. If our outcomes are better, we want to earn your enrolment on that basis. If another institute's data is clearly stronger, they deserve it.

That's the honest standard we hold ourselves to.

Compare our programme against every question in this guide.
